I have taught in a variety of mainstream primary schools in Scotland, England and Germany (Service Children’s Education Authority).
Local authority experience
From 2002 to 2008 in the London Borough of Croydon, I led the Area SENCO Team, this role was later extended to Inclusion Manager for the Early Education and Childcare Team.
National and independent experience
In 2008 I accepted the part time post of Early Years Foundation Stage Regional Adviser with the National Strategies.
The National Strategies contract ended in March 2011 and provided the opportunity to build on my already successful independent consultancy and training business.
I have over the past year also enjoyed the opportunity to be a visiting lecturer at Roehampton University for undergraduates with both the Psychology and Early Childhood Studies departments.
In 2011, I successfully completed my PhD at University of Sussex
Since 1981 I have taught in a variety of mainstream primary schools in both Scotland and England. In 1990 I began working in the field of special educational needs and taught both infant and junior aged pupils with a variety of additional needs. My interest in behaviour developed through my work in a Pupil Referral unit and establishing an outreach support service to provide support for pupils as risk of exclusion.
From 2002 to 2008, I led the Area SENCO Team for Croydon Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership and this role was later extended to Inclusion Manager for the Early Education and Childcare Team. These roles gave me the opportunity to work in Private, Voluntary, Independent and Maintained Sector settings. I commissioned, developed and delivered training for Early Years practitioners in home settings (child minders), Day Nurseries, Preschools, Independent Schools, mainstream and special maintained sector schools.
I have also contributed to local authority conferences as keynote speaker and running workshops.
When the National Strategies contract ended in March 2011 I had completed my PhD and was be able to focus on building on my already successful consultancy and training business. One of the exciting developments has been working jointly with Jane Cook to set up Linden Learning Ltd. Jane has extensive experience in education which ranges from working with the Department for Education to being a very successful Headteacher. She is particularly skilled in working teams either in a setting or Local Authority to develop a collegiate approach to training and improvement. Exciting times!
